The multitalented McNamara also stars in Shadowhunters, playing the central character of Clary Fray in the series. She shared that ‘Ember’ was co-written with Peter Steingard following season 1 of Shadowhunters, and the song is partially inspired by the show and by her own experiences.

“It’s about those moments in our life when we doubt ourselves, but inside of all of that there’s always this little ember of hope, this little bit of fire still burning in the ashes that is ready to reignite,” McNamara explained to Hollywood Life. “My song is about that point of re-ignition.”

Check out the Freeform site, where Kat shares more about her inspiration for the song and her music.

Based on the bestselling Mortal Instruments novels written by Cassandra Clare, Shadowhunters just wrapped up its second season. The team has already started shooting season 3, which will air in 2018.
