Top Streaming TV Shows of 2019
Here at Tunefind we’re looking back at some of the highlights from 2019, including the top movie soundtracks, top new TV shows driving music discovery, top tv syncs, and most popular artists on Tunefind. Check out our handy compilation of all our year-end coverage at Round Up: Tunefind’s Best of 2019.
With streaming services creating so much new, original content, we had to expand our lists to feature these shows. While Netflix and Hulu are still the leaders this year, we wonder how things will change as AppleTV+, Disney+ and more streaming options enter the market and provide even more original television content.
No matter how those streaming wars shake out, the real winners are viewers, who have access to so much great content at the push of a button. And with travel and holidays coming up, now is the perfect time to download/watch one of Tunefind’s most popular streaming shows from this past year. You’ll get entertaining stories and discover some great new music in the process.

Most popular shows on Tunefind by web or streaming providers (original content, not redistribution) during 2019.

From the very first season through season 3, Netflix series 13 Reasons Why has been a hit for music discovery. Songs from Lord Huron in season 1, Billie Eilish in season 2 and The Decemberists in season 3, 13 Reasons fans continually push the teen drama onto the charts. With an executive producer like Selena Gomez, original music by Eskmo and music supervision by Season Kent, we’re not surprised.
Music Supervisors: Jamie Dooner, Ben Hochstein
Popular songs featured artists like 070 Shake, Nao and Black Atlass. The variety of artists help tell the coming-of-age story of the predominately Hispanic and black adolescents in South Central L.A. and make it a knockout for our charts.
Music Supervisor: Bruce Gilbert
Orange is the New Black has been a long running fan favorite, even up to the end. The final season saw incredible song placements by Young Ejecta, Trills and Verite. (Even songs by cast members too.) It truly is the end of an era for OITNB.
Music Supervisor: Maggie Phillips
The Handmaid’s Tale has featured popular songs by Kate Bush, Mazzy Star and series composer Adam Taylor. Fans have consistently had interest in the original score by Adam Taylor, with songs featuring lead actress Elizabeth Moss.
Music Supervisor: Cody Partridge
The cult hit show Letterkenny has put Canadian artists in the spotlight, featuring multiple songs from Death From Above 1979 and introducing fans to countless others.
Music Supervisor: Nora Felder
Between 80s classics from artists like Peter Gabriel and Corey Hart, as well as original score from composers Kyle Dixon and Michael Stein, Stranger Things has some killer music. However, the theme song from cult classic film The Neverending Story took over last season when sung by Dustin (Gaten Matarazzo) and Suzie (Gabrielle Pizzolo). We’re sure you’ve heard of the #NeverEndingChallenge, thanks Millie Bobbie Brown.
Music Supervisor: Matt Biffa
Sex Education was an instant hit, immediately jumping to the top of Tunefind’s charts and even breaking records. The series featured popular songs from Ezra Furman as well as some still unreleased tracks. Thank goodness for the previously released songs and top song from Billy Ocean.
Music Supervisor: Maggie Phillips
The Umbrella Academy was a huge hit for nostalgic music. The series is based on the award-winning Dark Horse Comics graphic novels of the same name, created by Gerard Way (of My Chemical Romance) and illustrated by Gabriel Ba. ‘I Think We’re Alone Now’ by Tiffany was featured for an incredible scene, as well as ‘Istanbul’ by They Might Be Giants. And we can’t forget the top song medley by Lindsey Stirling.
Music Supervisors: Amelia Hartley, Pete Saville, Zoë Ellen Bryant
Peaky Blinders has featured popular songs by Black Strobe, Cabbage and Richard Hawley. Many fans have hunted after the songs by singer/songwriter Anna Calvi and thankfully some compositions have been released. And, of course, there’s the iconic ‘Red Right Hand’ by Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, which spikes back up the trending music charts every season of Peaky Blinders.
Music Supervisors: Alexandra Patsavas, Justin Kamps
Lucifer was saved by fans and brought to back on Netflix this past summer. The series is known for star Tom Ellis (Lucifer Morningstar) breaking into song, as well as a top song by Old Caltone and another popular song by AG and Claire Wyndham.
Old Favorites
While the list above features shows that aired new episodes in the past year, part of the joy of streaming services is that you have literally thousands of hours of entertainment from past years at your fingertips. There are probably tons of older shows that you missed the first time around, but sometimes it’s impossible to know where to start. Here’s a handy list of the most popular off-air shows on Tunefind.
