Top TV Song Last Week: Bashed Out by This Is the Kit

After breaking records with season 1, Netflix’s Sex Education is coming back strong. Season 2 was released January 17 and has claimed the top spot with a reflective song from This Is the Kit.

 

 

The song plays at the end of episode 2, as Adam is expelled from military school and gets into the car with his parents. ‘Bashed Out’ echoes the disappointment of Adam’s parents, and his resignation toward his fate.

This Is the Kit shared the placement on their Twitter account, “Hello and nice to meet you to anyone who has recently stumbled upon thisisthekit’s  ‘Bashed Out’ lurking at the tail end of episode 2 of the latest season of #sexeducation.”

This Is the Kit is the moniker for the alternative-folk project of Kate Stables, a British-born, Paris-based musician. With collaborators and band members Rozi Plain (bass/vocals), Neil Smith (guitar), and Jamie Whitby-Coles (drums), Stables has spent more than a decade evolving the sound of the band.

This Is the Kit first gained attention when their song ‘Two Wooden Spoons’ was selected by BBC Radio 6 DJ Rob da Bank’s Sunday Best recording label for their Folk Off compilation album.

Following a debut album, Krulle Bol, in 2008 and a sophomore album, Wriggle Out the Restless in 2010, the band caught the attention of The National’s Aaron Dessner. Signed to Dessner’s Brassland Records, the band released their third album, Bashed Out, in 2015.

This Is the Kit has played major festivals, like Glastonbury, and supported acts like The National, Iron and Wine, and Sharon Van Etten on tour. Their latest album, Moonshine Freeze, was released in 2017.

‘Bashed Out’ was previously featured on Pretty Little Liars and Grace and Frankie. This Is the Kit has had other placements on Wanderlust, Shameless, You’re The Worst, Made In Chelsea, and The Royals.
