Jasmine Thompson’s captivating vocals on her version of ‘This Year’s Love’ close out episode 5, as Lucifer and Chloe talk about their relationship.

“I was so excited to be able to pitch Jasmine Thompson’s intimate cover of the song for such a beautiful moment between Lucifer and Chloe,” shared Justin Kamps, Lucifer Music Supervisor. “This is by far my favorite David Gray song. It was a staple of both my ‘in-love’ and ‘heartbreak’ playlists growing up. Just an absolute classic love song. Thanks to all the Lucifans for making this spot #1 this week!”

The cover of ‘This Year’s Love’ by Jasmine Thompson was released in July last year. Thompson has had other cover songs featured in TV shows like Love Island (UK) and Love Island (US), CW’s The Originals and Supergirl. An original song from Thompson’s 2017 EP Wonderland appeared in Grey’s Anatomy season 13.

Jasmine Thompson was born in London and was YouTube-discovered at age 13. After recording numerous cover songs for her channel, she started getting regular radio airplay on BBC. In 2013, Thompson self-released her debut album Bundle of Tantrums. One month later, she released an EP called Under the Willow Tree.

While releasing her own music, Thompson created a track with German DJ/producer Robin Schultz called ‘Sun Goes Down’ that became an international dance hit. In 2015, Thompson was signed with Atlantic Records and traveled to the U.S. to collaborate with artists like Jesse Shatkin and Emily Warren.

Under Atlantic Records, Jasmine Thompson released her single ‘Adore,’ followed by an EP with the same name. After the EP release, Thompson released 15 different single tracks between 2015 and 2017. She continued to collaborate with other artists like Hugel, Eden Prince, and Felix Jaehn.

In 2017, she released her sophomore EP Wonderland, featuring Meghan Trainor, Julia Michaels, and many others. In 2019, Thompson released more singles that later appeared on her EP Colour.

Her latest release is a collaboration track with DJ/producer Zedd called ‘Funny.’ Jasmine Thompson has earned more than 3 billion global streams, 700 million YouTube views, and 3.5 million subscribers – and she’s only 19 years old.

‘This Year’s Love’ was written and originally recorded by singer/songwriter David Gray. The single version was released in March 1999 and two years later Gray released his fourth studio album White Ladder, which included ‘This Year’s Love.’ A film called This Year’s Love features the song of the same name, another White Ladder track, and David Gray himself in a cameo appearance as a pub singer.

‘This Year’s Love’ by David Gray has been featured in movies including The Girl Next Door, Crazy/Beautiful and Wimbledon. It’s also been used in TV series such as Dawson’s Creek and The Umbrella Academy.
