Wedding reception; End credits.
The second installment of The Haunting anthology series, (following last year’s The Haunting of Hill House) The Haunting of Bly Manor starts off the season with a ghost story, told the night before a wedding. The season unfolds (no spoilers!) and at the very end of the season finale, the mystery storyteller, played by actress Carla Gugino, looks around a silent wedding reception. During this final scene, her identity is revealed and ‘I Shall Believe’ closes the season. The song continues to play through her nightly routine after the wedding into the end credits.
Chosen for The Haunting of Bly Manor early on by creator and showrunner Mike Flanagan, he felt ‘I Shall Believe’ by Sheryl Crow fit perfectly to the final moment. In an interview with Collider, Flanagan shared that he was introduced to the song through the movie The Pallbearer (1996) in college.
“I hope that it lands with people the way it landed with us in the room and in the way it clearly landed with Carla, who played that moment as only she could,” Flanagan told Collider.
‘I Shall Believe’ was released in August 1993 on Sheryl Crow’s debut album, Tuesday Night Music Club. This album also features hit ballad ‘Strong Enough’ and the familiar jam ‘All I Wanna Do.’ Tuesday Night Music Club reached number three on the US Billboard 200 albums chart and is 7x platinum certified in the United States. Sheryl Crow won three Grammy Awards in 1994 for Record of the Year, Best New Artist and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance.
Tuesday Night Music Club was expanded in 2009 for a re-release and features the original 1993 album along with a B-sides CD, as well as a DVD with the album’s six original videos, an alternate version of ‘All I Wanna Do,’ an on-the-road documentary and many more exclusives.
After the release of Tuesday Night Music Club, Crow continued to release hit albums for the next 25+ years. Crow’s latest album release, Threads (2019), marks the eleventh studio album from the singer/songwriter.
In addition to her over two decades long music career, she has appeared in numerous TV shows and movies as an actor or herself, and Sheryl Crow has had dozens of synch placements in television and movies. She also wrote a recipe book in 2011 called If It Makes You Healthy: More than 100 delicious recipes inspired by the seasons.
