Top TV Song Last Week: I’m Tired by Labrinth and Zendaya

For the fifth week in a row, HBO’s Euphoria features the most popular song on Tunefind. Euphoria season 2 wrapped up last Sunday with a song by series composer Labrinth and lead actress Zendaya. This gospel-sounding track follows Zendaya’s character Rue through the end of the episode, similar to the closing musical number from the season 1 finale.

Rue walks out of the auditorium and the melancholy instrumental of ‘I’m Tired’ begins with Rue’s voiceover. As she walks outside, passing the school buses, Zendaya’s vocals come in with a prayer-like tone. The song continues through the end credits.

‘I’m Tired’ was also heard in episode 4 and throughout episode 5. While season 2 was airing ‘I’m Tired’ was unreleased. But with fans driving demand, the song was released as a single on February 28th, the day after the season finale aired. The track was also included on the Euphoria season 2 soundtrack album released on March 4th.

The series composer, Labrinth is a British multiplatinum-selling singer, songwriter, producer and composer. Labrinth previously created a song with Zendaya for season 1 called ‘All For Us’, which was honored with an Emmy Award for Outstanding Original Music and Lyrics and was the final top TV song for season 1.

Before Euphoria, Labrinth was signed as a recording artist to Simon Cowell’s record label, Syco Music. He released his debut album Electronic Earth in 2012 which peaked at number two on the UK Albums Chart. His song ‘Beneath Your Beautiful’, from Electronic Earth, reached the top 40 on the US Billboard Hot 100 and reached number one in the UK.

In 2019, Labrinth composed the score for Euphoria and released his second album, Imagination & the Misfit Kid. The same year, Labrinth co-produced the soundtrack for The Lion King as well as co-writing the single ‘Spirit’ with Beyoncé and Ilya Salmanzadeh.

Two days ago, Labrinth shared an Instagram video of him singing ‘I’m Tired’ and stated, “We are over the moon 🌙  with your love on this song. I see what it means for some of you… literally we’re just playing what comes through us. Thanks for feeling it.”

Labrinth has had song placements in the 2014 film Step Up: All In as well as TV shows such as Grey’s Anatomy, The Chi, Never Have I Ever and many others. Zendaya appears on The Greatest Showman (2017) and Smallfoot (2018) soundtracks.
