Here at Tunefind we’ll be looking back at some of the highlights from 2018, including the top TV music moments, top movie soundtracks, and our favorite new shows for discovering music.

We have a lot of fun stuff to cover as we look back at highlights of film and TV music during 2018. But we’ll start off on a bit of a sad note: A look back at some TV music powerhouse shows that aired their final episode this year. These shows are Tunefind fan favorites that have helped us discover thousands of new songs and artists over the past decade.

Music Supervisor: Lindsay Wolfington

E!’s first scripted series featured glamour, intrigue, romance, and lots of great music – no surprise with the showrunner and music supervisor from One Tree Hill teamed up again here. We went behind the scenes with Lindsay Wolfington on one of the big music moments of the series, with “Half Light” by BANNERS: Music Supervisors and Musicians Collaborate on Original Music for TV Shows.

The vinyl collections of Olivia and her love-to-hate-him father inspired the classic, soulful soundtrack of this Shondaland political thriller. It’s fitting that the series concluded with an original song by the one and only Stevie Wonder. Also check out our list of Scandal’s Best Music Moments, in honor of the 100th episode.

Featuring artists like Peter Gabriel, Fleetwood Mac, Juice Newton, Roxy Music, Air Supply, and many more, The Americans gave us iconic 80’s hits mixed with deep cuts that introduced fans to the joys of digging deeper in an artist’s catalog.

Music Supervisor: Frankie Pine, Mandi Collier

Musical juggernaut Nashville recorded and released over 300 songs during the show’s 7 seasons. Tapping established and up-and-coming songwriters from Nashville (the city) – and showcasing vocals from the multi-talented stars, several of the show’s songs broke through on the country charts.

Love helped us feel all the awkwardness, struggles, and humor of modern dating, all thoughtfully soundtracked to enhance the story.  Spanning genres from folk punk and 80s rock to EDM, indie and 60s pop, discovering the artists featured on the show gave fans another reason to fall in love with the series.

Kari Kimmel’s inspiring theme song, “Where You Belong,” welcomed fans into the Adams-Foster family and set the tone for the emotional series. Featuring music from Joshua Radin, The Weepies, and originals from The Fosters Cast, including a rock opera performed by the talented young actors in Season 3. Here’s hoping the touching music and cast performances continue into the spin-off, Good Trouble in January 2019.

Sense8 just snuck onto this list, thanks to a 2-hour special that aired earlier this year. The series finale gave series creator Lana Wachowski the chance to tie up loose ends after the abrupt cancellation of the cult hit show. Just like every other time episodes aired, Sense8 dominated the Tunefind charts following the big finale.
