Here at Tunefind we’re looking back at some of the highlights from 2021, including the top movie soundtracks, top new TV shows driving music discovery, top tv syncs, and most popular artists on Tunefind. 10. Top TV Song Last Week: The End by JPOLND

The new Shonda Rhimes period drama series arrived on Netflix on Christmas Day and nearly took over Tunefind’s entire trending music chart. This placement by JPOLND took the top spot and Bridgerton went on to be Emmy-nominated for Outstanding Music Supervision, Outstanding Music Composition, and Original Main Title Theme Music.


9. Fan Favorite Songs from Netflix’s The Kissing Booth 3

The story continues from the 2018 Netflix romcom and 2020 sequel of The Kissing Booth. The Kissing Booth 3 features a nostalgic song placements including a musical callback with a song by Walk the Moon (prominently featured in the sequel first). A variety of other artists like Radical Face and Landon Pigg fill in the stories of romance and heartbreak.


8. To All The Boys… Music Supervisors Share their Favorite Songs From TATB3

Music supervisor duo Lindsay Wolfington and Laura Webb returned for the third installment of To All the Boys… and continued using key songs to accompany Lara Jean’s story. Webb and Wolfington talk through their favorite songs from the film and highlight placements by Anna of the North and Ashe, who gained lots of popularity following the previous films in the franchise.

7. 2021 Emmy Nominees for Outstanding Music Supervision

The 73rd Emmy Awards was the battle of the streaming services with multiple nominations for series from Netflix, HBO, and Disney+ across the music categories. This category was introduced in 2017 and was awarded to Sue Jacobs for HBO limited series Big Little Lies. The following three years, this category was awarded to Robin Urdang for Amazon’s The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.


6. Hawaii-based Artists Featured in I Know What You Did Last Summer

IKWYDLS music supervisor Alison Rosenfeld Moses shares how the local music scene in Hawaii influenced the series and opened a conversation about the music industry in Hawaii. The Hawaii-based artists shared their experiences and the impact of having their songs licensed for a hit Amazon series.


5. The Bold Type Farewell – Rob Lowry Shares Favorite Music Moments

Music supervisor Rob Lowry walks down the memory lane of this pop-centric series after five music-heavy seasons. Lowry shares his passion for representation, working with artists like MILCK and Dagny, and the most meaningful placements he’s achieved while working on The Bold Type.


4. The Big Music Moments of Tiny Pretty Things

This Netflix ballet series features so much more than classical music. The premiere season featured a variety of genres and artists like Sofi Tukker, Faunea, and CLAVVS. Music supervisors Natasha Duprey and Scott Belluz describe some of their favorite music moments, along with the fan favorite songs.


3. Fan Favorite Songs from Lucifer

Music supervisor Justin Kamps talks about the musical journey of the Netflix-resurrected series, Lucifer. From the premiere episode featuring Cage the Elephant to the final season featuring LACES, Lucifer has been a consistent hot-spot for music discovery. And don’t forget about those devilish cast performs by lead actor Tom Ellis, some of which still remain unreleased.


2. All About THAT Song – Lara Jean and Peter’s Song – in TATB3

Music supervisors Laura Webb and Lindsay Wolfington joined up with singer-songwriter Leah Nobel and producer Quinn Redmond to create a special song for TATB3. They share the process for making “Beginning Middle End” and how it became Lara Jean and Peter’s song.


1. Top Music Moments of the Ginny & Georgia Soundtrack

Netflix’s new mother-daughter comedy-drama features fresh voices and character-driven songs. Music supervisor Kaya Pino shares her personal connection to the sound of the series and highlights placements by Ralph and Miya Folick.

While not technically from 2021, these articles still have huge traffic as interest lives on through this past year.

The Vampire Diaries: Best Music Moments, Part I

Our three-part series about the music of The Vampire Diaries continues to draw excitement from a LOT of fans of the show, making it one of our top visited articles this year (and really, every year). TVD fans are passionate about their love of the show and the soundtrack. Music supervisor Chris Mollere walks us through his favorite music moments from each season of the show, plus you can enjoy the Spotify playlist of his favorites.

Fan Favorites: Most Popular Songs from Euphoria

Euphoria was a huge deal during the premiere season, not only for fans but for music as well. Music supervisor Jen Malone and show composer Labrinth incorporated over 100 licensed and original songs and score across the 8-episode season. Labrinth’s score–at the time unreleased–included some of the most sought after tracks on Tunefind for the entire year back in 2019. This post lists the top 20 fan favorite songs from Euphoria. A couple of special episodes have helped keep fans engaged in the series until Euphoria returns in January 2022.
